23 March 2015
On the 21st of March – the second day of the second month in the lunar calendar – Baima Tibetans began their annual mountain circumambulation festival. This activity will continue until the 20th of April. During this time, women from the eighteen Baima Tibetan clans will don beautiful traditional clothes, while men wear masks, and both dance around a bonfire, offering alcohol, and so on. Activities during the festival include circumambulating mountains, trees, lakes, fire, and so on, to wish that mountain deities and territorial deities will grant their protection in the coming year.
